James Carr
My first job had nothing to do with fine woodwork to say the least. Professional basketball was my career and I continued down this path for some 6 to 7 years.
Having been given the opportunity to go to TAFE to do a cabinetmakers course I grabbed it with much enthusiasm for this had been a dream for some time. After completing the 3 year course I now had a real focus and determination to follow these newly acquired skills.
The Sturt School for Wood had always been a fine Woodworking course I coveted, and being lucky enough to receive a partial scholarship from the Australian Decorative Fine Arts Society (ADFAS), went on to complete the course in 2002.
I now find myself up to my elbows in wood shavings and sawdust, so much so that I now want to share this passion with others in a teaching and mentoring role. I offer a range of flexible options where individuals can choose day by day or secure 30 or 60 days in blocks of 1 or 2 days per week.
Students can elect to work their way through a variety of projects incorporating different techniques, or they can bring their own ideas and seek advice along the way. If you are interested in what I have to offer, please contact me.
